Hello hello and welcome to another Theme Thursday! Hope you’re all doing well π
Thank you so much to everyone who’s participated this week β€ Be sure to check their links below for some awesome recs π
If you don’t know what this is about, please check out my post here.
π Bloggers Shoutout π
Theme Thursday is a new biweekly feature created by Sophie @ Blame Chocolate where bloggers can share recs and newly found books featuring that week’s theme.
- There will be a different theme (genre, trope, etc) every other Thursday. You can check the theme calendar here.
- Those participating have to list titles that feature that theme in some way (doesn’t have to be the main theme of the book).
- You can use the three main categories: Books I’ve Read/I’m Reading, Books I Want to Read, and Other Books That Fit The Theme but this isn’t mandatory.
- Please use this boxed text in your post, which doubles as a pingback.
- Additional info is available on the Theme Thursday page.
This week’s theme is: Twins!
I was always fascinated by the way they seem able to feel what the other twin is feeling, even if they’re miles away, and just know what they’re thinking without a word. It’s such an interesting phenomenon – transcendent-like, even.
You know what I’m talking about, especially if you have your own twin! (I’m jelly, by the way)
As for my recs this week, I didn’t care much for Fangirl or The Cruel Prince… Oops. Slayer‘s review will be up very soon, though, and I’m still struggling to finish A Game of Thrones :S
How is your reading going? π

π Who are some of your favourite twins in fiction?
π Do you know any twins in real life?
π Have you read any of these books?
Let me know in the comments below! π
Oh, gosh… the twins in the Shining… Awesome choice though π

Thanks, Norrie! I did pat myself in the back for remembering that one π (though I’ll probably never read it π )

I remember reading some books with twins aspect but nothing coming to my mind right now. This is a great list! I loved the cruel Prince! I haven’t read The Fangirl but heard good things about it!

Well, as long as you enjoyed them, that’s the main point! I also admit I don’t remember if I’ve read any more twin books than the ones I listed… It’ll remain a mystery forevermore xD
I’m happy you did! I’ve read two or three books by Black by now and feel that maybeher writing’s just not for me… She’s great, though!
Same with Rainbow Rowell. Two books and none of them captured my attention, unfortunately π¦

Wow, I didn’t realize that there were so many books with twins! Cruel Prince was pretty meh for me too (lol the twin drama), and I enjoyed Fangirl well enough, though I’ve similarly heard it’s not for some people. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on Game of Thrones though! The show ended on a rather disappointing note for me, so I’m contemplating whether I should pick up the books or not. π
Btw, I’m super jelly of twins IRL as well! There were two in my grade growing up (one identical, one fraternal), and I can imagine just how convenient it would be to have someone to rely on in terms of homework and stuff. Even now, I want one. π

You and me both! Hahaha
TCP… Man, I just can’t get into Holly Black. I tried twice and twice failed… I might try again but not sure when.
Fangirl was just so boring to me. While I did relate to the main character quite a bit (can’t even remember her name lol) I just didn’t find her story interesting. What that says about me, I have no idea xD Maybe I just enjoy reading about characters that are my complete opposite? Or maybe the writing really wasn’t for me. Who knows?
Ugh, the show was suuuuch a disappointment. I don’t even count the last season as part of it anymore. I just pretend it doesn’t exist (like HP’s epilogue hahaha)
The book’s all right so far. There’s so many details that it feels like I’m trudging through mud, though. Martin REALLY writes a lot, about a lot. The fact that I already know what happens half the time doesn’t help either as the surprise factor just isn’t there so I’m basically “rereading” the whole thing. I don’t remember everything that happened in the show, though, nor is it completely similar but yeah. Most stuff so far has been expected.
I hope it changes soon because the books are massive and there are many of them waiting for me XD
I always wondered that too! I knew a few twins growing up but never had them as immediate friends, which I was always very sad about (felt like a bit of an exclusive club I wasn’t allowed in!) I knew some did that – tricked their teachers, parents, girlfriends, etc. Mostly harmful pranks but yeah, you could get very creative being a twin xD
Me too!!! Will probably arrive with my Hogwarts letter π

Me neither; I read Holly Black’ children’s books as kid, and while the premises were cool, I never found myself falling in love with the execution (and I was a lenient reader back then). Still giving Wicked King a go, though I’m not sure if I’ll love it haha.
Yo, me too! Whenever an ending is disappointing for me, I just rewrite it in my head or completely ignore it. Like the HP epilogue; I literally have this alternate ending written in my head down to a tee because I was so disappointed with it. π
Oh, that’s the case with most epic fantasy for me! I can’t find myself getting immersed in them because my brain is soooo overloaded with unnecessary details; I’ll probably just read GoT though so I can brag that I finished ’em lol.
Haha it’ll be your unknown twin who delivers the Hogwarts letter, not the owl! π

Huh, that’s really cool to learn! I always thought it was just me xD
I mean, that’s what fanfiction is for, anyway hahaha I used to write it a lot, and I think that’s partially because I was never okay with how everything ended in books/shows/movies. I was this little closeted critic rebel LOL
Hahaha definitely! I mean, I love a great intricate, complex world-building and characters which is very much what Martin has going on, but at the same time it’s like “damn, man, just get on with it” xD It’s probably because I already know most of it and feel like I’m wasting my time learning it all again, but still.
OMGGG :O Girl, that’s an insane plot twist if I ever saw one XD

This is a good theme. Iβm trying to recall which book I read that have twins. Gosh, Iβm blanking out! π

I’m glad you enjoy it, Jasmine! Be sure to tune in for next week, maybe even take part? π Would love to see your recs!
Hahaha oh don’t worry, I blanked out too and had to search through my GR lists extensively before coming up with these π

I really would like to take part in your weekly meme, Sophie, but it seems I canβt find a good time to do it. This week my parents are visiting so I hardly get to blog. I have been having a lucky streak at receiving new ARCs lately and I feel pressure to read and review them as quickly as I can. I do hope to have some time free up soon to do some fun things π
LikeLike
Oh I completely understand… It’s hard enough to find time to read when you have nothing else going on, but when there’s family, new ARCs and other stuff involved of course you should prioritise those π
All the themes are already announced (you can check the Theme Thursday page) so if you do find a tiny window to come up with the recs and schedule things, it might be easier. Looking forward to seeing you take part, Jasmine! β€

I think One by Sarah Crossan is probably my favourite twins read ever. It’s about conjoined twins trying to decide whether or not to be separated. It’s all written in verse and it is BEAUTIFUL.

Oh I never read that one but probably won’t because poetry is not my forte… I’m glad it was such a wonderful experience for you, though! Conjoined twins are not very common in books, and that’s such a shame because they usually have such rich stories to tell π

I love reading TWINS!! They are such fun. My mom is a twin so I do love seeing them in books. My favorite books would be the duo twin series by Donna Fletcher, Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward, Dark Challenge, The Truth About Love and Dukes by Laura Lee Guhrke, Acheron by J.R. Ward

Oh that’s so cool! Did you have trouble as a toddler/kid when they were close together? That must have been pretty fun hahaha
Thanks so much for these, I’ll have to check them out! I love twins β€

I actually totally forgot A Game of Thrones and Fangirl had twins in them haha. I enjoyed Fangirl but wasn’t as blown away by it as many others seem to have been, and I gave up on GoT part way through the book to watch the TV show instead… so I can relate!
Whenever I think of twins I must admit I still think of that 90s movie the Parent Trap β when I was a kid I was obsessed with it π

To be honest, me too! And then I was like “uh, duuh” xD
Fangirl was honestly quite boring… And made me really annoyed at the main character, which is ironic seeing as I could relate to her so much (though maybe when I was younger, I’m definitely not as anxious and awkward as I was back then).
I’m still trying to finish GOT but, alas, it’s just soooo intricate and long and repetitive (my fault, I already know what happens, which takes away some of the fun) I just lose interest. But the book *is* interesting, I think I just need to forget about the show and focus completely on the writing (especially after that awful last season).
The Parent Trap!! I loooved it as a kid too. I always wondered whether I had a twin somewhere I didn’t know about hahaha But from an adult perspective, the concept is just really messed up xD Like, parents separating and keeping their own kids apart, and from the other parent… I mean, what in the world xD
Still, will watch it frequently π Great movie!

I can understand that with GOT, I am worried that when I do finally attempt to read it again I’ll also find it difficult to get into because of having seen the show… but I want to try so I can see how things pan out in the books, esp. after that last season (don’t even get me started on that terrible final episode!!). I guess the further along we get in the books perhaps the more things will diverge and the easier it’ll be? Fingers crossed!
Haha yes the Parent Trap is very problematic and bizarre from an adult perspective (what sane parents would do that!?!) but a whole lot of fun to watch as a kid. I think it made a lot of us wonder if we had secret twins π

Some things are different, I’ve been told, but the material they used for the show is mostly directly taken from the books, adapted to fit the format, of course, with some minor changes here and there. Which explains why the first few seasons were so good, and once they ran out of books to follow, s**t hit the fan xD
Ugh, terrible episodeS you mean! The whole season was absolute crap. I promise, I’m okay xD
Definitely, and thankfully I can still watch it from that innocent perspective and just have fun with it ^^

Ahh I love books with close siblings relationships and twins, this is so good to read! I read The Lying Game series and well it was quite entertaining! I really, really want to read Rachel Lynn Solomon’s book, it sounds SO GOOD π

I thought you might like it, indeed!
I’m a bit hesitant to try TLG because I find I might have outgrown it (just like I’ve outgrown Pretty Little Liars) but I’m still hoping to pick it up one day π
It does, and just like something you would like I think! π β€

Twins, hmm … The only one coming to mind right now is in the spiderwick chronicles. Frankly, I remember reading about brother/sisters but not necessarely twins π€

I changed things up a bit so now it’s a monthly meme instead, and everyone can choose which Thursday of the month they want to post on. June’s theme is Time Travel and I’m super excited to see what people come up with!

Sadly, I canβt read time travel at all as I get too lost π so it wonβt be for this topic, unfortunately!

Awesome, glad to hear I didn’t make it worse hahaha
I’m kind of the same, to be honest! Unless it’s presented in a very simplistic way and it makes sense, I get super confused and lost… So mostly just children books are okay xD
I totally get it π I hope you get to join next month for Virtual Reality! It should be fun as a lot of books about that have been published in recent years.

I really like this feature you have going on, I just saw it over on The Bibliophagist blog and I want to join this month. I’m having trouble adding the orange text box for the Time Travel post, how should I go about doing that?
LikeLike
Oh thank you! That’s awesome π Yay, I’m really happy to hear you’ll be joining! Can’t wait to see your picks π
The texted box is basically a few lines of code to make it look like that, but you don’t have to add it exactly as I have on my post, you can just add the text! If you’d like the exact look I can send you the code through email but fair warning: if you don’t dabble in HTML and know how to work with it then it’s best to leave it alone or it could mess up your entire post.
So yeah, let me know what you’d like to do and I’ll be happy to help π Also, when you can please check out the Theme Thursday page as I’ve changed a few things about the meme and made it monthly instead. I altered the boxed texted to reflect that and also the calendar, but basically you get one theme each month and you can choose any Thursday to post. So it’s not a set day, but you should still post on a Thursday.
Oooph, sorry for the huge comment! I hope I made things clear enough π If you need anything just email me or comment. I’m also on social media (Twitter, Instagram, etc) so feel free to stop by! β€

No worries at all! I’m always happy to share great content ^^
