Rapid Fire Book Tag

Hey guys! I was tagged by the lovely Sam @ onebookishgirl to do this a while back and it has been long overdue… She’s seriously one of the sweetest people around and her posts are always so much fun to read, so please check out her blog! She has tons of great reviews and other amazing content.

Thanks once again, Sam! And sorry for the wait…

The Questions:

E-book or Physical book?

I really depends. At home, I do like physical books. But I always like to have the e-book too to carry with me when I’m out and about. It’s just so convenient!

Paperback or Hardback?

Hardbacks sure are the Holy Grail of books, but they’re usually a lot heavier and so much more expensive. No question that they look and feel better, but if I have to choose between buying one or the other, I’ll usually go for paperback (unless it’s a book I absolutely love or it’s cheaper than the paperback).

Online or In-Store Book Shopping?

I love going into bookstores! It gives me such a nice, relaxing feeling. But I rarely buy from them… I usually just do all of my shopping online, unless I happen upon a really great deal.

Trilogies or Series?

Either one, so long as it makes sense for the story.

Heroes or Villains?

Both, so long as they are well-written. I hate whiny, goody-two-shoes heroes who bring nothing new to the table, and flat villains who end up being more pathetic than evil.

A Book You Want Everyone To Read?

There are so many! But if I had to make a quick choice, maybe His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. It’s an amazing and unique series.

Recommend an Underrated Author?

Juliet Marillier! I’m not sure how popular she actually is, but I don’t see much of her on other people’s posts nowadays. And it’s a shame because she writes such wonderful books! If you a fan of Fantasy and Celtic stories, you should definitely check her out.

The Last Book You Finished?

Bridge of Snow by Marie Rutkoski.

Weirdest Thing You’ve Used as a Bookmark?

I’ve used coasters and empty snack packs. Although I own around thirty different bookmarks…

Used Books: Yes or No?

I don’t mind used books, but for some reason I don’t own many. That needs to change!

Top Three Favorite Genres?

Fantasy, Young Adult and Historical.

Borrow or Buy?

I like to buy my own books. I like to take my time with them and not have to worry about giving them back or messing them up. Plus, I can re-read them as many times as I want. But I might borrow a book if I’m not really sure I’ll like it.

Character or Plot?

It’s not a choice, really. You need both for the story to truly come together!

Long or Short Books?

It depends on my mood. Sometimes I just want something short and sweet. Sometimes I need something grander and deeper to keep me occupied for days.

Name The First Three Books You Think Of

A Song of Ice and Fire, Harry Potter and Throne of Glass.

Books That Make You Laugh or Cry?

I avoid books that make me cry like the plague! Definitely books that make me laugh.

Our World or Fictional Worlds?

Fictional worlds are so much more fascinating when built well. But I don’t mind our world, either. Just make it entertaining!

Audiobooks: Yes or No?

Audiobooks are, again, incredibly convenient! They keep me from getting killed/hurt very often while taking a stroll outside (running into a lamp post while reading, anyone?). Plus, they save a lot of time. But I do need to like the narrator’s voice and tone.

Do You Ever Judge a Book by it’s Cover?

Unfortunately, yes. I’m a sucker for beauty.

Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?

It’s quite hard to make a movie based on a book due to all the time constraints. It rarely delivers, as it doesn’t pack as much plot and character development as it should. So TV series are usually a better choice.

A Movie or TV-Show You Preferred to its Book?

Catching Fire and The 100.

Series or Standalones?

It depends on the story. Just don’t drag on something that obviously isn’t going anywhere, nor cut short something that obviously needs developing!

  1. Oh my goodness! I definitely have many of the same answers as you! I might as well just copy & paste your answers onto mine.. Hehe Thank you for tagging me! I do prefer plot & characters too, one is just not good enough.

    1. Thank you so much! 🙂 The books were okay, I liked them, but after watching the show it just wasn’t even fair hahaha It was a winner. They differ greatly, to the point where only main plot and characters seem to match at this point. I felt bored at times reading the book, and some things just didn’t make much sense when compared to what was going on on the show. I kept saying to myself “Yes! This show gets it!” which is a real shame because it’s not even the original material.

When it comes to the Hunger Games, I just preferred the visual format. In the books we are mostly told what’s going on, not shown, and it just doesn’t work as well. Plus, we only have Katniss’s POV to guide us and her internal thoughts can get overwhelming. I thought the movies did an amazing job without the dragging on. They were just spectacular!

      1. Yep, totally agree with you. There were talks of doing prequel movies to the Hunger Games, but I pretty much think that would be a very bad idea. As for the 100, it is really an awesome show. Still behind on it, but hope to catch up with it soon. (One of the many problems of having way too many things to see lol 😂)

        1. It’s hard for me to choose too hahaha. But maybe Child of the Prophecy? I really enjoy anti-heroes as protagonists, especially if they’re female.
But I still have a lot of her books to read so we’ll see if that changes 🙂

  2. Oh my god, your answers are basically the same exact answers I would put down haha XD Loved all your answers. And even though I haven’t read The 100 yet, I absolutely adore the show 😀 And Catching Fire was really good. I’m not sure if I liked it more than the book though; however, I definitely liked the Mockingjay film better than the book! Thanks so much for the tag. Can’t wait to do this one ❤

  3. I agree with so much of what you said. I love hardcovers to have and to look at, but paperbacks are often easier to read. I also love physical books, but ebooks can be quite convenient.

    1. I just don’t see why some people shun ebooks… They can coexist just fine with regular books. They’re not meant to substitute them or make them disappear. They’re simply an alternative 🙂
      Thank you for stopping by!

      1. Exactly! I like having physical books to put on my shelves, but there’s only so much space in the world. Ebooks are great for books I want to travel with or don’t love quite enough to have taking up space in my home. Also, sometimes there are just great deals!

        1. Yup, I completely agree! I still value paper books as much if not more, but I’m too practical to care about such things. Realistically speaking, ebooks come in handy way too much for me to disdain them, but to each his own!

  4. I love His Dark Materials trilogy! It was one of the first fantasy series I read so it has stuck with me. I re-read Northern Lights last year so I need to re-read the rest of the trilogy soon.

    1. It was one of my first too! I think you need to re-read it at least once to fully grasp the meaning of it… Which is fine because you can never read it too many times hahaha
But I really enjoyed it and it’ll remain one of my favorite trilogies of all time. I’m glad you loved it too ^^
      Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

    1. Yay! I’m a very visual person and cannot escape the power of pretty covers hahaha
I also think books, ebooks and audiobooks can coexist peacefully. There’s no need to make a war about it!
      Thanks for stopping by 😊
