  1. I love that Carmilla is a novel based on a web series which is already an adaptation of a 19th-century novella! I loved the original novella so I might have to give that one a go too πŸ™‚

  3. Ahhh Wilder Girls and Gideon the Ninth were fantastic and perfect for Halloween! I’ve also been hearing lots of good things about plenty of these others, like Mooncakes and The Lost Coast πŸ˜„ Thanks for this list, Sophie!!

    1. I’ve seen them around sooo much lately, couldn’t not include them here πŸ˜‰ Most of these are pretty popular, yeah, but there are a couple obscure ones like The Luminous Dead that have me intrigued!
      Enjoy, Margaret! ❀

  4. I’d LOVE to say I’ll check these out but I’m the most easily scared person on this world and therefore won’t be able to πŸ˜› But great list!! ^^

    1. Hahaha most of these are not scary at all! Just spooky/paranormal – off the top of my head I can say Slayer, Mooncakes, These Witches Don’t Burn, Hex Life, and Other Words for Smoke are spooky, at best. I know Wilder Girls is quite graphic, but not sure about the others… They’re YA, though, so how scary can it get, really? πŸ˜›
I hope you get to read some of them, Marta! Trust me, I’m such a scaredy cat and if I could handle them, so can you! 🀣

  5. Hex Life and Wilder Girls are two of the books that I’m hoping to read fairly soon. One of them may even be next, it depends on which library book I decide to get read first. I have quite a few others from here on my TBR too though.

    1. I can only vouch for Hex Life (it’s such a great anthology) but I’ve heard great things about Wilder Girls as well – it’s pretty graphic, though, so I’m probably not reading it any time soon…
I hope you enjoy those you decide to pick up, Charlotte! They all sound pretty good πŸ™‚

  6. I rarely read spooky reads for some reason but I want to read more and this is perfect because LGBT+ representation is wonderful!!
Gideon the Ninth is one that I am really interested in and I love the vibes the covers gives off so I’m excited to pick that one up!!
These Witches Don’t Burn is one I’ve heard mixed things about but I absolutely love the cover and the name (and the sequel too)!!
I’m excited for mooncakes as well because that seems my type of scary book as it looks adorable, haha!!
Great post and thank you for making this list!! πŸ’•

    1. Yay, glad to be of help! I’ve heard so many great things about those three, and they sound perfect for this time of year – unfortunately, I won’t be able to read even a fifth of this list as I have so many others to get to first, but I might pick them up later πŸ™‚
Hope you enjoy, Sophie! And thanks so much for reading ❀ ❀
