Theme Thursday

Theme Thursday: Office

Hi everyone and Happy Thursday! I’m sure you all know what that means…

It’s Theme Thursday time!

Yes, that’ll be my intro from now on because I’m lazy. 🀷

So last month I said I didn’t have any themes planned for the upcoming months but I did come with two that would be so cool to do: Office and Witches (because Halloween, I mean, how could I not?)

πŸ’Ÿ Bloggers Shoutout πŸ’Ÿ

Theme Thursday: Office

Theme Thursday is a new monthly feature created by Sophie @ Blame Chocolate where bloggers can share recs and newly found books featuring that month’s theme.

  • There will be a different theme (genre, trope, etc) every month. Check the calendar here.
  • Those participating have to list titles that feature that theme in some way (doesn’t have to be the main theme of the book).
  • You can choose one of the four (or five) Thursdays of every month to post.
  • You can use the three main categories: Books I’ve Read/I’m Reading, Books I Want to Read, and Other Books That Fit The Theme but this isn’t mandatory.
  • Please use this boxed text (or similar) in your post, which doubles as a pingback.
  • Additional info is available on the Theme Thursday page.

This month’s theme is: Office!

So any books that take place inside an office space or are about office life or even office romances – really, anything would be fair game. You just had to make sure they involved offices somewhat.

And, guys, I just love these so much! There’s just something about getting access to somebody’s work life, their crushes, their vendettas, their hopes and dreams, that makes it super exciting to read about. Or maybe I’m just nosy? 🀣

🍫 Books I’ve Read/I’m Reading:

Our Kind of Cruelty by Araminta Hall

I really didn’t like this book. At all. And I know that has nothing to do with it being a genre I rarely reach for because I have read thrillers/mysteries in the past that I did enjoy.

However, Our Kind of Cruelty did involve a few scenes with the main character in his office and with his coworkers so I had to include it here.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

On a lighter note, I love The Hating Game so much 3 ❀ ❀

It was the perfect office romance – enemies to lovers, super slowburn, non-asshole alpha love interest, quirky and lovable heroine, witty, sexual-charged banter, I mean, what else could I ask for?

Just please read this book, it’s so CUTE.

The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot

Another super cute book!!

So, confession time: I used to be addicted to chick-lit. I know it gets a bad rep, but honestly, they were some of my favourite books ever and I still look back at them with fondness.

The Boy Next Door is one of them.

I know I was much younger then and I might cringe at it now, but who cares. Not only did it include some of the best romance ever, but also some hilarious office moments. Also, did I mention it is completely written in IM/email/text format? (Groundbreaking at the time, guys, I assure you.)

Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot

This book is why sequels are sometimes best left unpublished, inside the author’s mind…

Boy Meets Girl is supposed to be a sort of spin-off to The Boy Next Door (same setting, same supporting characters) but it has none of the charm, wit or fun of its predecessor.

Not only is the heroine a dimwitted Barbie with no endearing qualities to speak of (no matter what the author says) but the whole story and romance are so insipid.

🍫 Books I Want to Read:

I’ve heard so much about this author and I thought Neanderthal Seeks Human‘s blurb sounded so adorable! Not to mention the cover… ❀

Again, the cover and blurb had me instantly in love! I just hope Nerd Girl doesn’t disappoint me…

Another adorable book… I don’t know what made me add Sushi for Beginners to my TBR but I’m sure glad I did!

That’s it! Make sure to pingback so I can check out your recs. And if I missed your TT post, feel free to send me an email or comment below with your link and I’ll check it out πŸ™‚

The next theme is: Witches! Check out the calendar here.

  1. Thank you once again for the shoutout! πŸ’• And thank you for the new recs! It was such an interesting theme but it made me realize that most books I read featuring offices were sexual haha. I didn’t know Hating Game took place in an office and it made me want to read it even more! Great post πŸ₯°

    1. Not a problem, Karla! Glad to hear you enjoyed last month’s theme ❀
Hahaha yeah, I think I've come across a lot of them while searching for recs to include here (I ended up not including them because it just felt like they were all the same…) The Hating Game is quite sexual, to be honest, but not in a gratuitous way I don't think.
I hope you enjoy it! And I hope you enjoy this month's theme too ☺️

      1. It’s true that they are all pretty similar; same trope over and over again but they’re okay if you’re in the mood. ☺️
        I LOVE THIS MONTH’S THEME!! 😱😍
I’m still thinking of the books I want to feature but I am very excited haha! πŸ₯°πŸ’•

        1. Yeah I don’t mind re-reading the same sort of plot every time, as long as the author gives their own twist and makes it interesting – I’m game!
Aww that’s so good to know ❀ I hope you have fun, I have sooo many books to include in it, I have no idea how I'll manage hahaha Can't wait to see yours!!

  3. ooh I just love OFFICE love, it’s so so yummy in romance. I had such a fun time with The Hating Game. Some of my favorite office romances are And Then He Kissed Her by Laura Lee Gurhke, Rock Hard by Naini Singh, Hero by Samantha Young, and Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen

  4. ooooo I think I’ll be adding Nerd Girl to my TBR~ That one looks interesting.
I LOVE Penny Reid! I’m actually going to be re-reading Knitting in the City and the Winston Brothers series to prepare for the last Winston bro. book coming out in November. So many books, so little time. Although perhaps this second time through I’ll finally be able to pick a favorite πŸ˜‰

    1. I hope you like it! I’m curious about it too πŸ™‚
I feel like I might leave Penny Reid for Christmas time… I don’t know, it just feels festive like that xD I’m glad you enjoy it so much, though! That gives me hope I will too ^^
I love it when the entire series is out before I dive into it (I just hate having to wait around for the sequels, and I ultimately forget everything from the previous instalments XD) so that’s reassuring!
Also, sorry for the extremely late reply but I just recently found out your comment was in Spam jail >.>

  5. I don’t think I’ve read many books set in an office, except maybe Coffee Boy – it’s a cute novella about an intern working in an office of the same & I really liked it πŸ™‚ I definitely have been seeing The Hating Game everywhere lately πŸ‘€ I’m also VERY excited of WITCHES!!!! Perfect for Halloween πŸ₯°

      1. It’s funny how trends come back… I used to see The Hating Game EVERYWHERE a few months/years ago and now it’s here again hahaha I don’t mind, though, because it really is an awesome book! πŸ™‚
I’ll check out Coffee Boy, it sounds so cute ❀ And I hope you enjoy this month's theme, it's definitely one of my favourites thus far – and I do appreciate you suggesting Ghosts but I've been so obsessed with witches lately and have read so many books about them, it just felt like I had to choose that one. Still, thank you so much for your input, Caro!
        You're most welcome ^_^

  6. Great theme! I really must read The Hating Game – I don’t often read romances outside of the fantasy realm but I’ve seen several positive reviews for it, and now you’ve listed all it’s good qualities (including enemies to lovers, which is a favourite trope of mine!) you’ve reminded me I need to pick it up.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it, Nicola! The Hating Game is so adorable and witty and fun – I can’t recommend it enough ❀ (and since you love enemies to lovers, well, it couldn't be more perfect!)
I think it'll also appeal to different people with different tastes. It's an unconventional romance that doesn't rely on potentially toxic tropes and actually feels fresh and interesting πŸ™‚
