Easter Time Book Tag

Hello everyone and Happy Easter! 🐰🐣 To those who don’t celebrate Easter – happy Sunday!

I hope you’re all having a great weekend and get to eat lots of chocolate today (my favourite part of Easter, but that’s not surprising hahaha)

I didn’t really know what to post today but then I saw this super neat tag going around. The lovely Theresa @ The Calico Books created it and tagged anyone who read it so here we are πŸ˜€ She also came up with these adorable little graphics, and I simply couldn’t resist!

🐰

RULES

  • Answer the prompts.
  • Tag some friends.
  • Link back to this post, and be sure to mention the creator (Theresa @ The Calico Books)
  • Have fun!

1

Antigone

This was a tough one as many of my favourite books are so well-known…

But I feel not enough people have read/known this one and I wish they would because it’s honestly such an amazing play and has one of my favourite heroines of all time.

2

Sky in the DeepTo Kill a KingdomWeregirlAngelfall

Unlike the previous prompt, this one was really easy!

I actually seem to enjoy a lot of the debuts I pick up, which is great πŸ™‚

3

To Kill a Kingdom

Especially because I knew this was a standalone and would not be getting any more Lira and co 😭

4

The Secret Garden

I managed to get a really old copy of this one for very cheap. It’s also one of my favourite classics!

5

Night of Cake and PuppetsDash & Lily's Book of Dares

These books were just too cute to function ❀

6

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I didn’t want to be a clichΓ© but this was the book that actually got me into reading and made it such an important part of my life. (Fun fact: I read CoS before TPS 🀣)

I could include a ton of non-fiction that have had an impact in my life as well but HP will always have a place in my heart and I think that’s way more important.

7

The Raven Boys

I’ve had many twisty reads but this is the most recent one I can think of. And man, were there surprises!

🐰

I tag everyone ^^

Feel free to leave the links to your own Easter posts below and I’ll check them out!

  1. lol that’s pretty funny how you read CoS before PS; mistake or on purpose? Also, I’ve heard Angelfall is really amazing, and I plan on reading it this year. Apparently it’s super underrated, so I’m quite excited for it. πŸ™‚

    1. It was completely by accident! At the time I didn’t know about HP or that it was a series. I borrowed it from a friend of mine (I don’t remember how I got to borrow the second and not the first books, though LOL)
But I loved it so much I ended up buying the entire series (well, at least the ones published at the time).
Angelfall was surprisingly brutal! I was expecting your average predictable YA dystopia but I got sobbing sessions and heart-wrenching moments instead. The romance was brilliant too πŸ™‚
It is! I hope you get to read it soon, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it ^^

      1. Haha to be fair, I think Chamber of Secrets is still a pretty easy introduction to HP, so I can totally see that working out for you. πŸ˜‰

And yay! I have such high hopes for Angelfall, I can’t wait to check it out. Thanks for letting me know! πŸ˜€ ❀

    1. Thank you, Meghan! I hope you had a wonderful Easter as well πŸ™‚
You started with the “best” one, or so they say πŸ˜›
I don’t remember exactly why I started with the second book… I think I borrowed it from a friend not knowing it was a series. Back then HP wasn’t as famous, or as least I wasn’t aware of it!

      1. You’re welcome! & Thank you, I did! πŸ™‚

I’ve heard that before too. It’s my favourite, but I strongly believe it’s because I read it first, multiple times before I read any of the other books!
The reason I picked the third one is because it was the latest one released at the time, and I didn’t realize it was part of a series at all. πŸ˜›

        1. Hahaha I thought I was the only one who’d started the series in the wrong order! Apparently a lot of people had the same problem to some extent… Who would have thought?
And yeah you might be right! I think that’s exactly why I have such a soft spot for CoS. I read it quite a few times before I did the others (funnily enough, something I barely do anymore!) and took me quite a while to figure out there were “others” in the first place πŸ˜‚
Very curious now, when did you realise it was a series?

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Haha, I guess it’s more popular than we thought! I’ve always thought I was the only one!
Probably when the fifth one was going to be released because a girl in my glass was SUPER excited about it, like she cut the ad for it out of a newspaper, and I went ohhh I’ve read one of those… maybe I should go back to the beginning… but I didn’t go back to the beginning until years later πŸ˜›
            How about you?

  2. Awesome tag, Sophie! I love all your answers! I adore To Kill a Kingdom, and just recently finished Sky in the Deep! Oh my word, it was wonderful! I can’t stop gushing about it haha. The Secret Garden is one of my favorite classics as well!

I hope you have a happy Easter! ☺️

I’m so glad you loved those two as well ❀ Indeed both of them just make me so happy just thinking about them hahaha
So cool that you love The Secret Garden too! I see we have many tastes in common ^^
Thank you, lovely! I hope you had a wonderful Easter πŸ™‚

    1. They were so amazing, weren’t they? I think the author mentioned there would be short stories of some sort about them… I can’t wait T_T
You need to pick it ut ASAP Raven! It’s soooo good. I’m currently reading The Valiant and both are super similar, so if you enjoyed that then you’ll most likely love SITD too πŸ™‚

  3. Great answers for this tag Sophie! Angelfall was an amazing debut, I fell in love with the trilogy and back in love with the dystopian genre because of that book. In fact the first two were great but in my opinion the third book kind of let the trilogy down. :/
When it comes to sweet books you can’t really beat Night of Cake and Puppets. I love Laini Taylor’s writing and Zuz and Mik were brilliant characters to follow, plus it’s just a sweet story to break up the relative angst in the main trilogy.
Again great answers, and I hope you had a great Easter as well Sophie. πŸ™‚ ❀️

    1. Thank you, Beth! I think Angelfall might have been the one to get me back into dystopias as well hahaha I’m so sorry to hear that! I adored the whole trilogy from beginning to end, but I do remember there were some things about the final book I wasn’t a fan of. However, I still ended up giving it 5 stars as, as a whole, it was amazing.
I know!! Those two were so adorable and quirky ❀ ❀ They were certainly a much needed break from all the angst, completely agree… Even though I love angst, I also love achingly sweet couples.
Thanks again, Beth, and I hope you did too! Mine was quite lovely, tons of chocolate to keep me happy hahaha I also got to enjoy a really nice and sunny long weekend, which was very welcome ^^

      1. That’s all right, and yeah overall I did enjoy the third book but it was just a bit of a let down compared to how much I loved the first two (I guess my expectations were too high).
Too much angst is definitely too much, I felt they were a perfect break and they were still part of the story so we got the world we love without the heartbreak we were used too.
Thanks Sophie! πŸ™‚ Yeah not a lot of chocolate but I enjoyed the long weekend for sure! πŸ™‚ ❀️

  4. Hope you had a good Easter! haha always great to have an excuse to eat lots of chocolate πŸ˜‰ Love the graphics for this tag as well. Antigone is a cool pick. Loved to kill a kingdom and I want to read sky in the deep. And night of cake and puppets is the epitome of sweet. HP definitely impacted my life too. Wonderful answers!

Theresa’s graphics are adorable and so springtimey!
So glad to hear you enjoy most of my choices. I think you’ll like Sky in the Deep if you liked TKAK (it’s also very similar to The Valiant).
      Thanks for reading ❀

  7. Thank you so much for doing this, Sophie! I loved reading your answers!! πŸ™‚ The Secret Garden is one of my favorite classics, too. Also, I really need to read To Kill A Kingdom soon, because I’ve been hearing nothing but amazing things about that book!!

  8. Awww your graphics are always so good it makes me miss tags Sophie! I need to read To kill a kingdom! I’ve heard such good things about it… though I didn’t know it was a standalone. A good reason to give it a go. And why I’ve read Angelfall I never did read the rest and I remember enjoying it! I really need to pick up the sequel. ❀️

    1. Thanks Danni! But these are actually Theresa’s (the creator) graphics, not mine 😊
TKAK is a must read!! I felt it portrayed mermaids (and I suppose pirates) in such a refreshing way and unlike what I’m used to. Plus, I adore my unlikable anti-heroines ❀️❀️
Oh you definitely should continue the series, it only gets better, darker and more ruthless, and will tug at your heartstrings like nobody’s business.

  9. I haven’t read any of those books, but the covers look pretty awesome! I just read a few fantasy series that I fell in love with, which is odd since it wasn’t a genre I’ve wanted to read before. The Raven Boys sounds interesting so I added it to my TBR list. Thanks much.

I’m glad you were able to find some gems in a genre you don’t reach out for much πŸ™‚ The Raven Boys is a wonderful paranormal series with amazing amazing amazing writing, characters and strong friendships, so if you do like that sort of thing you should definitely give it a go ❀

  10. I was also able to get The Secret Garden very cheap and read it last month! It was quite good. I also quite liked To Kill A Kingdom and I just read Angefall last month and enjoyed it quite a bit too πŸ˜€ I LOVE the raven cycle πŸ˜€ Definitely a lot of surprises!

    1. Hahaha great timing! xD I suppose you can get a lot of classics for really cheap these days… Which is pretty cool. I need to read more classics and knowing I don’t have to completely ruin my wallet for them is very much appreciated. You can also get most (if not all) for free on certain websites too like Project Gutenberg, so even better! Though I have to admit getting my hands on decades-old hardbacks just makes my heart a bit too happy xD
I’m glad you enjoyed some of my suggestions, Olivia! Hope you have an amazing month ❀

    1. Sky in the Deep is AWESOME ❀ Badass viking girls will make your day.
Weregirl was great, and the second book as well. Though I stil haven't been able to finish the third one. It's honestly my least favourite and I don't think I'll ever finish it just because it doesn't interest me in the least thus far (and I'm about 41% in).
So yeah, you'll probably love the first two, just not sure about the final installment 😦

  11. Angelfall was such a surprise! I didn’t think that it would turn out to be one of my favorite YA angel books! Such an amazing debut for Susan Ee. Night of Cake and Puppets is quite honestly the sweetest little novella. Love the illustrations and the story itself is just so adorable. I’m finally reading HP for the first time! I’m so sad that I never got the chance to grow up with it, but it’s still making quite a mark on me. I love everything about the series so far. Great post! πŸ˜€

    1. Same here!! I don’t want to be mean but it was a self-published book, very under the radar (at least for me) and I had no expectations whatsoever. The book blew me completely away and went on to get even better as the series progressed. As the kids say: I was shooketh xD
Zuzana and Mik are just two little cinnamon rolls in need of care and protection ❀ I miss them!
Aaww that's so great, Azia, I'm glad you're enjoying it so far πŸ˜€ I have to admit I don't love it as much as I used to but it still makes me so nostalgic and happy when I think about all the joy it brought me in my younger years. I think as time went by I just started to get into the Marauders era more, especially with fanfiction and stuff. So yeah, I still adore the world and everything JK built, just not specifically Harry and the gang's story. I also didn't like the epilogue or the conclusion as much as I'd hoped.
      Thanks so much, hon!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. LOL, shooketh is correct XD But I do so love to be surprised. Angelfall reminds me that not all great books are published by those big publishing houses, ya know?
I miss them too! One day, I hope that Taylor merges the worlds of DSOB and Strange the Dreamer so that we can see all the characters together at once.
Ah the Marauders. By that, do you mean James, Sirirus, and Lupin?? I’d love to try some fanfiction one day. Never have I read a piece for any series that I’ve loved! But HP seems to be the perfect series for some off-brand spin-offs lol. But yeah, I’m having a great time with it so far. I know how it ends. I’m just enjoying the journey at this point XD
        Of course! ❀

        1. Definitely, and I’m so glad that’s the case because oftentimes self-published books and authors do get an unfair disadvantage based on that simple fact, and it’s not right. However, I’ve also learned from experience that certain self-published creators can be quite nasty and hard to deal with, so that was one of the reasons I decided to stop accepting review requests from them. Unfortunately, that means all the other honest and hard working authors will be left out as well, but I need to protect myself first and foremost and I really don’t think, based on what I’ve seen and read on the community, that it’s worth the risk right now.

That would be extremely cool! I wonder if she’ll do it… Maybe if the demand is high enough xD

Yes yes yes, James, Sirius, Lupin (and Peter, I suppose) but also Lily and the girls. Lily Evans is my favourite female character in the HP world, and I love reading about her and the gang. They just always felt so much more entertaining and more interesting than Harry and his friends… I don’t know why? And it might be the fanfic talking but ever since that tiny glimpse into their lives in HBP I could never stop thinking about them. Of course now I can barely distinguish what’s canon and what’s not though LOL

I highly recommend you scour websites like fanfiction.net and harrypotterfanfiction.com for HP specifically. There’s a lot of trash in there but you also find a lot of hidden gems that I would honestly love to see published. FF does have a bad rep but that’s because most of the ones that do get a publishing deal are complete crap God bless xD

I just think JK would do us all a huge favour if she could get her head out of her ass for a minute and come up with a decent prequel instead of pushing for yet another Fantastic Beasts movie! I mean, I like the universe just fine but five movies? Yeah, that’s a bit much.

Sorry for the rant LOL I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying the HP journey so far and I hope it continues that way. It really is a magical series, no doubt, and I’d love to be able to read it with fresh eyes again! I might start tearing up so I’ll go now xD ❀

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Yes, I’ve experienced just a bit of that nastiness you mentioned from self-published authors. But I’ve not accepted many reuqests anyways so I’m certainly not as exposed to that sort of behavior as it seems you are. Sounds kind of scary haha. But also, that’s really disappointing to hear. I would love to support independent creators as often as I can, but obviously it doesn’t always work out :/

Ah ok. From the tiny glimpse I saw in OOTP of James and Lily, I was really interested in seeing what else was going on during their time at Hogwarts. I’m excited to see a little more of them in HBP. I’ll definitely have to check out those sites and see what I can find. I’d love to see more of Lily. If she’s anything like Hermione or even better than her, I’m fully interested!

Oh JK. She needs to take a vacation from her own creation. Just needs to take a little step back so that we can just enjoy what she’s made haha. I don’t really care for the Fantastic Beasts movies tbh. Maybe I should try reading the books though. I might feel defferently. But even if I do, 5 movies is outrageous. I didn’t even know there were going to be that many?!

LOL. That’s all right. Everyone needs to rant once in a while. And it sounds like HP means a lot to you so no worries at all ❀

            Like

            1. I never got it first-hand, thank God, but I did read about so many horror stories from fellow bloggers I just decided to make it harder for it to happen to me.

She’s definitely a lot like Hermione – she was a muggle-born so had to work twice as hard to be taken seriously in the magical world, suffered quite a bit of bullying, and was very hard-working and studious. But I find her a lot more fierce and independent and able to stand up for herself than Hermione ever was. I’m not sure if it’s because she was a redhead (lol) so had a cheekier personality but I find she might be a mix between Hermione and Ginny πŸ™‚ (we all know JK loves to allude to the fact that Harry and Ginny are so much alike James and Lily, which is kind of creepy imo XD)

I liked the first movie but wasn’t awed by it. It was a bit boring! The second one as well. I don’t know if I’m just too old for them or if they just suck LOL Probably both 😑

Yeah, I mean it’s part of my childhood and sometimes I just feel like JK is ruining HP. Seeing as I’m not the only one with that sentiment, it just feels better to speak about it rather than wallow in misery by myself xD

              Liked by 1 person

              1. Maybe that was a good choice LOL. Better to be safe than sorry in some cases.

Oh she sounds wonderful. That’s one thing about Hermione that bothers me. She’s extremely brilliant and capable, but her character still feels overshadowed by Harry and Ron, and what’s worse, she allows both her best friends to walk all over her, even though she’s right in most cases. It grates on my nerves to see her being slighted by everyone, even her friends. So, Lily sounds like a bit of fresh air in that aspect haha.

Yeah, the first was boring. So that’s why I never really reached for the second one. I don’t think they hold the same enchanting quality to it as the movies before.

JK is certainly managing to disappoint many of her fans. Hopefully she’ll wake up and realize that the world she built in our youth is the world we’d like to commemorate for the rest of our days haha

                Like

                1. Hahaha yeah I mean Lily was a bit more shy and introverted when she was younger I think, but she always had this spark about her that made her the perfect spunky heroine!

I always felt she could have her own books and be soooo great, but no – JK never really gave her that much of a spotlight and not a lot of people care about her (except to ship her with Snape, which by the way, is barf inducing).

I never did like Hermione because of that. I mean, it’s great that she’s realistic and has flaws and all that but she suffers from a severe case of wasted potential. Besides her brains and compassion, I could never see her as the heroine of her own story because she was always in the background and Harry got all the credit! And don’t even get me started on her love life…

I only watched the second one because my friends wanted to and so I tagged along… Needless to say, it was a waste of money xD

A bit too late for that, I’m afraid, but hopefully she does stop this madness soon! xD
