What To Watch/Read This Christmas

holly-divider3

Hello everyone! ❤ I hope you’re all doing great (even if you’re freezing your butt off – I mean, hot cocoa and fluffy onesies must make up for that, right?)

So I’ve been on a mission to gather as much Christmas-y entertainment as I possibly can, and during my quest I’ve come across some pretty good ones! Which made me think: “well, why not share my findings with others?” I mean, you guys are probably in need of some extra Christmas-y material too, right?

So, without further ado, here are my recommentations:

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale [Netflix]: I really enjoyed this little Yule special and it made me even more pumped for season 2! Too bad we’ll have to wait until April… But in the meantime, it was lovely to get a little holiday spirit in 🙂

The Christmas Chronicles [Netflix]: This movie actually surprised me! I was expecting it to be super cheesy and childish but it was actually quite enjoyable, funny and charming. It’s also very family-oriented so suitable for any age.

The Family Stone [Amazon Prime]: This is probably one of my favourite Christmas movies of all time. I watch it every year and I never get tired of it! It has everything: family love, fun and witty dialogue, amazing and diverse characters, romance, drama… It’s just basically perfect.

Christmas Eve [Amazon Prime]: Due to a violent car crash, tons of people become stuck inside lifts all around the city, forced to endure each other’s company for several hours. And we all know how that ends, right? Also, Patrick Stewart is in it!

Pottersville [Netflix]: Classified as a dark comedy, it definitely has a charm of its own. The plot revolves around a man who gets mistaken by Bigfoot while on a drunken rampage. The classic small town story with a twist!

Christmas with the Kranks [Amazon Prime]: Based on John Grisham’s book “Skipping Christmas”, it chronicles a couple’s decision to not celebrate Christmas that year – a decision that is not so well-received by their family, friends or neighbours. Hilarity ensues!

Aggretsuko: We Wish You a Metal Christmas [Amazon Prime]: I just adore this metal-loving red panda. Like most people (and especially milennials), it’s easy to relate to her inner struggle with her job/social situation. It’s also super cute and merry!

On my watchlist:

  1. So many amazing things to watch! I don’t do anything too creepy, scary, or intense — so, The Christmas Chronicle seems perfect for me right now. 🙂 Even though Christmas is over, I’ll definitely be watching more Christmas films for the next week. I haven’t gotten my fill yet!
    Great list!

      1. I have thus far watched A Christmas Prince, The Christmas Chronicles (thanks for the tip! I was going to skip it, but it was super fun), The Christmas Calendar, and Love Actually. Next up? The Princess Switch.

I am such a sucker for these silly films.

        1. I can’t stomach A Christmas Prince, The Christmas Calendar or The Princess Switch… I tried them all and couldn’t do it xD
But Love Actually will always be a favourite!
I did like a silly Hallmark-y one called Christmas Wedding Planner – it was silly and cliché but was also super cute and not too cringy. I also started Christmas Inheritance but eh, didn’t care much for it.
I hope you enjoy all of those! Let me know how they fared 🙂 ❤

          1. They were all SO BAD, Sophie! I watched The Christmas Calendar and A Christmas Prince with my bestie. We were laughing so hard at how bad they were; like a trainwreck we couldn’t look away. I just love how ridiculous they are. So sue me. 😉

I will definitely watch the Christmas Wedding Planner. The 12 Days of Christmas end after sundown tomorrow, so I still have 36 hours to watch films. XD I’m so weird.

            1. Hahaha well I guess it all depends on how you tackle them – watching ridiculously bad movies with your bestie and them making you laugh uncontrollably sounds awesome 😉 I love bad movies for that reason, but sometimes they’re just bad (not funny at all) so there’s no point!

Oh my, have you managed to watch all of them?? XD

  2. I hope that you had a great Christmas! 😊 There are so many great movies on your list: I ended up really loving the Christmas Chronicles as well & always like watching lots of Christmas movies like Christmas with the Kranks or A Christmas Carol 😍

  3. This is such a great post, thank you for compiling this list together! I watched the christmas chronicles a couple weeks ago and I really had fun with it, too, I thought it wasn’t as childish as I imagined it to be, somehow 🙂 I hope you’re having wonderful holidays! ❤ ❤

  4. The Sabrina Christmas special was so good! And so heartbreaking! That bit with Harvey when he gave the pencils back at me choked up. That said I’m kind of glad they broke up. He has weak man syndrome. I assume he’ll grow out of it, but in the meantime Sabrina should have some sexy times with her hot witch friends.

ALSO she has made me want to cut my hair short. I think I’m going to do it. 2019 can be a short hair year!

    1. I know!! Sabrina and Harvey are so wonderful and angsty, and that bit almost made me tear up T_T I love them together but I do agree, they might benefit from some time apart. Their separation tore my heart out, though… I basically screamed at the screen for a good five minutes. But I adore the new Sabrina (so far her aesthetic is on point and her personality also seems quite awesome) so I can barely wait to see what she will do next!
You know, I’ve seen a lot of badass girls with short hair lately… Maybe it’s a sign! I won’t cut my own hair because I like it long but I fully support you! Sometimes we need a change – and sometimes a physical changes sparks a deeper one as well. So go for it and may 2019 bring you buckets of amazing things, Lydia ❤ ❤

    1. Thanks so much, Kat! Aww that’s a shame but hey, there’s always next year 😉
I love being festive during Christmas and that means binge watching all the goodness Netflix has to offer, but I won’t shy away from having some Christmas love outside of December hahaha
Girl, yes! You need a onesie in your life – I have a koala and it’s just heavenly ❤ So many to choose from though…

  5. I really enjoyed the Sabrina episode which is maybe weird because I only managed the first episode of the actual season but I’m going to give it another go. The Christmas Chronicles was great to. Kurt Russell as Santa Claus works for me 🙂

    1. Definitely do! I think it’s really interesting and fun, and a must for anyone who loves witches, warlocks and everything in between. A very different take on Sabrina but I actually prefer it to the 90’s version! Except for non-talking Salem… That was a low blow xD
Yeah same here! I actually enjoyed myself a lot more than I was hoping to 🙂
