Reading Challenges

O.W.L.s Readathon – Week 1

Hey guys! Hope you’re all having an amazing Sunday 🙂

As for me, I’m having a blast! I have read three books this week. THREE. I have never read these many before, and even though one of them was like 90 pages long and the other two were also between 200 and 300 pages, it’s still such a big accomplishment for lazy ole me 😂

This readathon has been amazing: it has forced me to devote more time to reading (which I fail to do so often), feel excited about reading even if the book is not especially interesting BECAUSE I’m being challenged and now that I have all these new wonderful reading buddies, it’s a way to both be held accountable for any laziness that might resurface and also feels super fun and engaging to chat with them about it!

You can read all about this Harry Potter readathon in my previous post:

Also please check out these lovely ladies who have been mad awesome enough to embark on this journey with me:

Thank you so much for joining and making my reading experience so much cooler, guys! ❤ I can't wait for next week 😀

A summary of what happened this week:

timeline-week1

All in all, I have to say the readathon has been going well! I’m fairly on schedule considering there’s a total of twelve books on my list and the month has four weeks so… Yeah, pretty happy about it 😊

Potions: A book about/with alchemy. Lyra Belacqua crosses paths with an alchemist post-His Dark Materials.

Arythmancy: A book with a number on the cover or in the title. Several numbers on the title/cover.

Divination: A book featuring prophecies. Avery West is swept into the world of secret societies and an ancient prophecy.

I think I’ve ticked all the right boxes there! *self-five*

Anyway, there’s still time to join the readathon if you don’t mind starting a bit behind – just contact me via any of the social media below ❤

And now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to my reading 🤓 (and blog hopping, so drop me your post links in the comments! 😊)

Thanks so much for reading and until next time!

  1. Whoa..three books in one week? I’ll be lucky if I can read three books in one month lol 😊😊 Glad to read that you are having so much fun though 😊😊 Love the timeline you have created by the way! I might join in on a readathon somewhere next year…but am a little bit too busy with other projects at the moment 😊 Hope you will continue to have fun with this!

    1. Oh yay!! I’d love to be on the same readathon as you sometime so let me know when you do 😁
Hahaha you know, I don’t usually read this many books either… This was definitely an exception, a fluke, a rupture in the time-space continuum 🤣
Thank you so much, Michell ❤️❤️ I need to make some time in my reading to check your lovely posts, which I shamefully haven’t in quite a while… 😥
      Thanks again! 😊

      1. Oh…really, no worries about that at all. Take all the time you need 😊😊I’m just very happy that you are back, and it’s totally awesome to see posts from you again, and see you reappear in my comments. ❤️
Really missed you! 😊😊 Lol…and rupture in the time-space continuum or not..it’s still awesome 😊😊

    1. Yeah, but it’s super unusual for me! Still, I’m happy I managed that many, even if it’s not too many for some people hahaha

Aw that’s lovely! Unfortunately, it wasn’t what I would call a favourite of mine at all… I’m glad your daughter loves it, though. I’ve heard it gets better with the sequels, anyways 🙂

Thank you for reading, Sophie ❤ ❤

  2. Ahhhh wow three books in one week, you’ve been doing SO great, Sophie, that’s incredible 😀 I am so happy you enjoyed Lyra’s Oxford, I really liked it as well, even if, like you, I thought it was a bit too short. I can never get enough of that world haha 🙂

  3. It seems like taking part in this readathon has been a great thing for you Sophie. I love how it’s made you more determined to read and the fact that you got through three books in a week when you haven’t been able to do that previously is a great thing for sure. You’ve also got through some amazing books so far, I haven’t read any of these myself but I love His Dark Materials trilogy so one day I really should read Lyra’s Oxford. 😀
Great post, and good luck with the rest of this readathon. 🙂 ❤

    1. It definitely has! I think it was all I needed to give me a bit of a boost – I’ve been lazying around for so long, and not because I don’t want to read, just because I’ve been distracting myself with other stuff that just ends up consuming my time fruitlessly.

You’ll absolutely love Lyra’s Oxford! It has that charm to it that Pullman got us used to in His Dark Materials and brings all those cosy feelings back ^^ Sadly, it’s a bit too short but still quite lovely.

Thank you so much, Beth! ❤ ❤

      1. I get the whole distracted thing, I feel like that’s me a lot of the time (and maybe not with reading so much but blogging definitely).
Oh that’s good to hear, it’s on my TBR list but then again given how many books are on that list at the moment I’m not sure that’s saying much.
        That’s all right! 🙂 ❤

    1. Thank you, Caro! Yeah, I’ll try to keep that rhythm if I can but I’m a bit nervous hahaha
Aw thank you so much! ❤ That's really sweet of you ^_^ I want to start adding more of them to my posts so they don't feel as dry and tasteless… Too much text is no good, so a pop of color and graphics will hopefully make the reading a bit easier 🙂

  4. YAY I love this update. And I’m loving this readathon. I’m actually having the time of my life. Thank you so much for deciding to do this readathon, and thank you to whomever it was that had me stumble upon your page and find out about this magical thing 😀 Excited for the next few weeks and then NEWT’s in November. ❤ x

    1. Aw thanks hon! ❤ Yeah me too, I'm super excited and happy to have all you wonderful girls to share the readathon with – it would have been too boring on my own hahaha

Can't wait to see how many I end up reading! I really want to be able to do all my N.E.W.T.s next but I sense failure in my future 😂

  5. I do hear people finding challenges like these a bit harder to accomplish, but most end up completing it by the end, but the progress you show here? Definitely ahead of everyone! Glad to see how well it’s all working out for you. I know I’d be HELLA happy to have 3 books within a week, no matter their size! Happy reading, Sophie! 😀

    1. Yeah I think it’s the initial flight response and fear of failure kicking in 😂😂😂 But I’m doing well so far, which is awesome!

Hahaha oh believe me, I never read that many books in a week. I figure I can, though, as long as they’re all around 200 and so pages. So it’s really a matter of strategy 😉

Thank you so much, Lashaan! You’re the best 😊❤️ And happy reading yourself 🤓 I look forward to more cool reviews from you!

  6. It’s always nice to find something that is inspiring and exciting!
I didn’t participate in this reading challenge, mostly because i know nothing of Harry Potter, but i really enjoy all the posts related to it and discovering cool books i didn’t know before.

    1. Indeed! It took me a while but I guess I found it at the right time 😊

Aw that’s a shame, I’d love to have you! It’s honestly super fun and you don’t have to know HP at all to take part. Maybe next time though 😉

Thanks so much for reading and finding my post enjoyable, anyway! Means a lot ^^

Unfortunately, these books are probably not your exact cup of tea but I might have something you’ll like in the next few weeks or so!

  7. Good job !! I’ve never read three in one week either; my max is two I think xD
Ive participated in one readathon before; a general one over tumblr like a year ago. And it’s something I really like about them too ! It just gives you that extra push you need to really focus on reading more. I so need that ahah

    1. Thank you!! I usually read one at most 😂
Exactly! I never did one before this one because I thought it would put too much pressure on me and make me anxious about reading, which completely defeats the purpose of a fun experience. But that hasn’t happened, in fact, quite the opposite!
I think there’ll be one called Blogoween coming up in October? I’m not sure of the specifics but you should totally try and find out more, sounds exciting 😃 I might join too!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Blogoween is the posting all halloweeny for the month, ahah ! But I did saw one roaming around – like one read at night is the only “prompt book” I remember .. but there’s Spooks-and-tea if you are in Lauren’s discord !

  8. I’ve seen a lot of people doing this and the NEWTS readathon so I am so glad you get to have fun and read alongside some other bloggers as well! Three books in a single week is a great amount and I hope it continues to go well x Glad to have you back and posting again ^.^

    1. Aw thank you! I love to have so many as well, it makes everything so much more enjoyable 😊

Yes absolutely. When you have others to keep you accountable for your progress you naturally feel more inclined to do well and have results to show, so you end up committing yourself a lot more. It’s also much more fun to have someone to talk to about the books everyone is reading and sharing experiences/tips ☺️

We have a GR group where we post semi-regularly. Some of us have been a bit busy and/or offline due to various circumstances but we’ve managed to stay fairly active throughout which is an achievement in itself! 😊❤️

      1. That is an achievement! Well done! It can be challenging to balance so many things all at once – particularly when you’re trying to read a ton. Kudos to you all for sticking to your reading schedule and updating GR group to keep each other motivated. I also find having friends to hold me accountable helps. It’s so much fun. 🙂

        1. Thank you so much, Jackie! 🙂

Yeah it’s certainly not always easy but I’m trying to stay positive and enjoy it as much as I can without hindering productivity.
I can definitely feel my body and my brain growing a bit tired… And I don’t want to feel like I’m being pressured to read so after this is over I’ll certainly take a break xD

Yes definitely, it has helped immensely and been really fun ❤
