Ringing In The New Year Book Tag

Hey everybody! How’s your day going so far?

You might be asking yourselves: “Is she doing a tag? IS SHE REALLY DOING A TAG?” Yes. Yes I am. Count this as a New Year’s resolution on top of all the others: to diversify my posts. Or, at least, try to.

Thanks so much to Raven @ Dreamy Addictions for tagging me! ❤ I hope it’s not too late to do this one. And please go check out Raven’s blog, she always has amazing book posts for your reading pleasure ^_^

Best book and/or series that you’ve read in 2017

Hands down. Queen Laini for the win.

Authors that you’ve recently found and would like to read more of in the new year

dog-on-it0

I just recently found out about Spencer Quinn (pseudonym) through his book Dog On It, which I loved. So I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Most anticipated book turned movie/tv show?

deadpool.png

None of the books I’ve read apply, except for Deadpool. And I am absolutely ecstatic to see the second installment coming out this year! It’ll be magical.

Name a character that you wouldn’t mind sharing a kiss with at midnight (if there is one)

Ha. If there is one?

(if you’re my boyfriend reading this, please avert your eyes for the moment)

In no particular order because all my cinnamon rolls are perfect: Akiva, Darien, Riden, Josh Templeman, Raffe, Luc, Wolf, Arin, Po and Darragh.

What’s on you TBR for 2018? (Top 5-10 will suffice if it’s an extremely long list!)

I don’t actually have a TBR but I’d like to (at least) read:

tbr.png

How many books do you hope to read in 2018?

I’m aiming for 60 because that’s a comfortable number for me but I hope I can actually read more than that.

Will you participate in the Goodreads Reading Challenge or any others (PopSugar, Down the TBR Hole, etc.)

Yup, good ole GR reading challenge is already up. I’ve read two books so far. So yay me.

Speaking of which, you can check out how I did last year:

Any New Year’s Resolutions? (Bookish, blogging (or vlogging), and otherwise)

Hmm let’s see. I do want to accomplish my goal of 60 books and I do plan on getting more serious about blogging in general, seeing as I’m such a lazy slob. Life-wise I want to exercise more and just generally take better care of myself, body and mind. Eat healthier (that means less chocolate *cries*) and drink tons of water (but hey, tea counts!) Not stress as much and let go of everything that is not good for me. Yeah, I think that’s about it.

  1. That series from Laini Taylor! I have seen many bloggers reviewed last year. I need to make time for it this year 🙂 Good luck to your 60 books! Exercise more is one of mines too as well as drinking more water 🙂 I haven’t even started on any books by Morgan Rhodes. It’s a long series. Did you like her previous books? I see some reviewers on Goodreads mentioned how it closely resembled to Game of Thrones. I want to read GOT first though since you loved it too. Thanks for tagging me. I’m so behind on tags 🙂

    1. You won’t regret it, Jasmine, it’s just so darn good ❤ ❤
Thank you so much! I think being healthier should be everyone's priority and so what if you use the New Year's resolution as an excuse? So long as you accomplish it 🙂
I had my ups and downs with the series but overall, it was a very enjoyable read. So I'm really hoping this next installments gets even better!
I personally don't see it being too close to GoT but I haven't read the books yet, only watched the show, so I can't comment much. I would say it draws inspiration from it but it's not nearly as brutal/fantastical/well-done as GoT. It feels like a washed out version – though not in a bad way 😉 Maybe GoT for teenagers? Hahaha
No problem! I hope you manage to catch up to them (I'm so behind too! 😥 )

      1. Those books are so thick and long.. but maybe I should just not think of a whole series and let that scare me away haha.. anyway, if I don’t get to it this year, there’s always next year. I have started exercising a little and in muscle pain the next day. How about you? There are so many exercise videos on youtube, I am amazed! haha..

        Like

        1. Yeah, they’re a bit thick but I’ve read them on Kindle so they don’t look as intimidating hahaha I guess physical copies act as visual deterrents 😛
I haven’t done much exercising other than walking a lot… I need to change that. But Youtube is great! You can literally find everything you need in there hahahaha

  2. What a fun tag and great post! I am also very much looking forward to Deadpool 2: it’s going to be amazing.
And wow: 60 books huh? That is quite a lot indeed. But you can do it for sure: Good luck! 😀😀

    1. Thank you so much, Michel! Deadpool 2 better be amazing – or else I’ll scream 😂😂😂
When I see other people’s goals I’m like “Damn! We got some real overachievers here!” Wish I could be like them… But 60 is still pretty good for me! And all I can afford at this point, though it would be nice to surprise myself.
      Thank you, I’ll need it!!

  3. Thanks so much for the tag Sophie!!! I hope you have great year in books and life in 2018! We even have the same reading goal! *high fives* Plus Immortal Reign comes out in a few weeks and I’m so excited and nervous for the end, I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it!

    1. No problem, Rendz! Thanks so much, hon, and the same to you 💕💕
YAY 😀 *high fives* I’m confident we can make it – and we will!!
I’m so nervous too! I have no idea what to expect, as I’ve had some ups and downs with the series so far… The last book was a bit meh for me? I don’t know. I honestly hope this one makes up for it and I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it too! 😀

    1. It was an easy pick hahahah Laini ❤ ❤
I need to read it too! It's so disgraceful, I've had it for I don't know how many months just sitting on my shelf and have not had the courage to pick it up yet. It feels like a big responsibility somehow? 😂
You definitely have time 🙂 I'm really excited for it and to see if it'll meet my expectations… I certainly hope so 😀
      No problem whatsoever, enjoy! ❤

  4. Yay for DOSAB!!!! How freaking amazing is that series?!? I WANT MORE!!!! Umm, yes to Deadpool!! I am SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!! 60’s a good reading goal, that was mine last year and I just scraped in. I have mine for 70 but I will have to see how I go…might have to change it back to 60…we shall see. Awesome post 🙂

    1. Yay indeed!! OMG such a heart-wrenching series… I’m both relieved/elated and sad/lost that it’s over? But thankfully I have the Zuzana/Mik story to read still, so that might help. And fanfiction and fanart. Thank God for those.
Deadpool!!! 😀 I really hope it doesn’t disappoint me or I’ll die 😂
I can manage 60 but I’m aiming for more, if possible… Best of luck to you! We shall be victorious *pumps fist in the air*
      Thanks so much, Steff ❤

  5. Woah! Thank you so much for the tag! Im interested in all of the books you mentioned (except Deadpool, but since we have similar tastes i might give it a try… im just too squishy with violence/gorish stuff and dunno if it resembles the movie?) Ahhh so many awesome books, i wish i could read in my sleep.

    1. No problem, Alicia! 🙂
Hmm yeah, if you’re a bit squeamish then I would definitely skip the comics… Especially Deadpool Kills Deapool (the second book) as it’s just wayyy bloodier than I expected hahaha
Overall, Deadpool is super violent and the only reason I love it so much are the wittiness/humor and cool action scenes. Otherwise it would be very passable.
I know!! Audiobooks are the best if you’re hoping to read more, though not everyone likes them. Maybe give them a go if you can 🙂
Hope you have a great year, hon!

      1. True! I’m going to jump in the audiobook wagon this year 😀, sometimes it takes time to get used to something new, but it is well worth it in the long run 😉 Have an awesome year you too 💕

    1. Thank you so much, Dani! Yeah, the first book was so great, I think, because it was the first time we were introduced to this fantastic world and its characters. But I really loved the others as well. The second book was super intense and had me under so much stress xD My heart could barely take it. As for the third, I think it was a lovely conclusion.
Thanks! That’s so sweet of you ❤

    1. Hahaha yeah I didn’t notice how many there were until it was too late and then I just thought “hell, I’ll just leave it as is” 😂
No problem, Inge! Hope you enjoy doing this 🙂
I’m a major fan of His Dark Materials so I’m very excited for The Book of Dust.
Thanks so much, hon, and you too ❤ ❤

  6. Thanks so much for the tag Sophie, I’ll definitely do this one and hopefully I’ll manage to squeeze it in before January is over given it’s a New Year related tag! 😀
Great answers for these questions as well. I’m so thrilled to see Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone series was your top series of 2017. It’s brilliant right, definitely one of my all-time favourites. Also I really hope you manage to get around to The Book of Dust soon. That was high on my TBR list this year and I actually finished it just last week. I’ll be looking forwards to seeing what you think of that one that’s for sure. 🙂
Good luck with your resolutions for the year, especially your GR reading challenge goal. I’m sure you’ll be able to get through 60 books before the year is over! 🙂
Thanks again for the tag, and great post as well! 😀 ❤️

Definitely, it’s one of those series that I know I’ll carry in my heart forever and that’s not an exaggeration at all ❤ It was just so well-written and well-thought out and just, ugh, perfect!
Oh that's awesome! I need to check out your review once it's up 😊
Thanks so much! I think I'll manage as I've been doing that number for a couple of years now, I just hope maybe I can stretch it out a bit more? We'll see how it goes!
Best of luck to you as well, and may all your 2018 resolutions come true 😀
      Thank you, darling! ❤ ❤

      1. Thanks, and yeah I get what you mean. Even ages after I finished it I’m still completely in love with those books. For me it was the setting that stood out so much for me. 🙂
That’s all right, and yeah I’m sure you will manage it.
        Thanks Sophie! 😀 ❤

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I think everyone should make that a priority before anything else, even if all goals are important and end up sort of as part of one’s self-care anyway. It’s just nice to be focused and driven and try our best, no matter the outcome 🙂
Thank you, and to you too ❤

  9. Yeeeee! Thanks so much for the tag, Sophie! I can’t wait to do this one 😀 And amen to The Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. One of the best out there, honestly. And do I see Po and Raffe on your list? Girl, yes. I agree wholeheartedly with those choices. Deadpool was a beyond fantastic film. Can’t wait for the sequel! And love your resolutions! Exactly what I’d like to accomplish this year as well 😀

Lovely post as always! ❤ And thanks again 🙂

Amen to that indeed! And OF COURSE it is Po and Raffe on my list, how could I not include them?? My perfect, perfect book boyfriends ❤ *starry eyed with a little drool on the side of my mouth*
Deadpool is fantastic, both the movies and the comics, and I'm honestly so excited for it I'm counting the days on my calendar!
I wish you the best of luck with your resolutions, then! May we work hard to accomplish them together 😀
Thank you so much, hon, and I hope you have fun with this ❤

  10. Raffe!! From the Angelfall series? He was amazing ahhh. Also I’m hoping to reach (and pass) 60 books as well!! *high-fives and shares chocolate* Those books you plan to read sound and look soooo good. Deadpool’s sequel, yess! So excited. Thank you for the tag!! ❤

I think you'd really like them, too 🙂 And I'm glad you're excited for Deadpool as well! 😀
      You're very welcome ^^

  11. Happy to see Queen Laini reigning supreme here 🙂 The Book of Dust is near the top of my TBR this year too – my problem is I want to re-read the original trilogy before I read this one, so that may delay me getting to it… I really hope it’s good!
I’ve seen the covers of those other books you listed on your TBR but haven’t investigated them more than that… so I look forward to your reviews! And good luck with your goal of 60 books!!
Btw tea totally counts. I think I would be permanently dehydrated if it weren’t for tea 🙂

    Like

    1. Of course! Queen Laini always ❤
Hmm I hadn't thought about that but it might be a very good idea… I don't remember the whole series all that well. But I'm kind of terrible at re-reading books? So I might risk it hahaha
I'm hopeful they will be just as great as I'm expecting them to be but I'll be sure to review each one once I finish them, absolutely 🙂 Three of them are sequels/spin-offs though, so you might want to check out the previous installments first. Heart of Iron is the only one which you can read as a standalone and if you've ever read Geekerella and liked it, I would very much recommend you try it 🙂 It's sci-fi meets Anastasia and being a big fan of both, I could not be more excited to read it!
Thank you so much, Nicola! Best of luck with your goals as well, be them bookish or otherwise ❤ Oh I drink so little water, you have no idea… I used to get headaches and be super tired all the time and it turns out I was just perpetually dehydrated? Sad but true xD Tea has been my absolute salvation hahaha

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yes I’m also terrible at re-reading! I’ve had a ‘to re-read’ pile for at least a year now that I haven’t even touched… but it’s been ages since I read the first three in that series so hopefully that’ll make it easier.
Ah okay I didn’t realise they were sequels/spin-offs, good to know, I’ll be sure to start from the beginning if I read them. I love the sound of sci-fi meets Anastasia!! 😀 Will keep my eye out for that review in particular.
Thanks! And that’s no good about the headaches and fatigue, I didn’t realise it could get that bad – but at least now you know the cause. You’ll just have to keep your tea collection well stocked 🙂

        Like

        1. Oh so I’m not the only then, good! xD
Right? Anastasia is one of my favorite animated movies of all time (plus, I love the real story from which they based it off, even though it’s not a nice one) and knowing it would get a retelling, especially considering how far from sci-fi it is, made me instantly interested 🙂
Yeah me neither… It was a big relief to know there was nothing medically wrong with me, though it was kind of not a relief to realize I can’t even take care of myself hahahah

  12. I too am looking forward to Deadpool 2; well.. pretty much looking forward to every superhero movie to be honest hahah I just hope Deadpool 2 won’t lose the magic of the first movie. I fear the first one was just a nice surprise for viewers and that if Deadpool 2 just tries to reproduce the first movie, it might flop… I do wish you luck on all your resolutions though. They’re definitely good ones. But Sophie and LESS chocolate? I don’t know man… It doesn’t really go together. 😉

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahaha I’m actually a bit disappointed in superhero movies as they’re all pretty much looking the same these days? Sorry, just my opinion! xD Unless I have a personal connection to the superhero in particular (like X-Men) or unless it’s so well-done I can’t complain, I will not care much for them. I will still go watch them and be entertained for sure but they’re not like my favorite movies.
Deadpool is very unique, makes me laugh like a maniac and is not afraid to take risks or make fun of itself, and that’s why I love it so much 🙂
I think you’re right. I’m not sure how faithful they’ll be to the comics or how they’re planning to adapt this one, but I’m confident they’ll find a way that will please the fans. Or, at least, I’m crossing my fingers super hard they will? ^^’
Thanks, Lashaan! ❤ I hope yours go wonderfully as well, if you do have any 🙂 Hahaha less chocolate doesn't equal no chocolate, right? So I think I'll be okay 😛 (there's a loophole in my resolution and I will deny it if you tell anyone, but I made sure it was there ha!)

  13. No such thing as too much tagging! Also, I am glad you really liked Dog On It enough to read more from that author! 60 books is a very comfortable amount for a year and I like that you’re setting a realistic and non-stressful goal! Wolf is totally a character I wouldn’t mind sharing a kiss with as well ❤

    Like

    1. Hahaha let’s hope not 😛 There’s a bunch of books in the series so I’m really looking forward to it. Chet and Bernie were such an iconic duo, I can’t wait to read more of their adventures!
It starts well enough but sometime during the year I kind of neglect the goal and really start getting behind hahaha But I’m hoping to be consistent this year – it’ll only be stressful if I get lazy 😉
Wolf is perfection *_* Scarlet is so lucky ❤
