Totally Should Have Book Tag

booktag1

Hey everyone 🙂 I hope you’re all doing amazing!

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted… Sorry about that! I’ve been taking some time offline and been incredibly busy. But hopefully this week I’ll make up for it!

A huge thank you to Ava @ Reads, Rhythms and Ruminations for tagging me for this and please go check out her blog! It’s full of chibi adorableness, awesome reviews and much more ❤

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE GOTTEN A SEQUEL

32849250

Weregirl by D.C. Bell. It was revealed recently this one is actually going to get a sequel so not sure if it counts… But yay!

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE GOTTEN A SPIN-OFF SERIES

61880a83-9223-4afd-aa68-883f3ce6c028

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling! I want a Marauders spin-off series so bad… 😥

AN AUTHOR THAT TOTALLY SHOULD WRITE MORE BOOKS

Emily-Bronte.jpg

Emily Brontë, who is unfortunately no longer alive. Her short life gave birth to a single novel and many poems, and it’s a tragedy that such brilliance could not live on through more.

A CHARACTER THAT TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ENDED UP WITH SOMEONE ELSE
throne-of-glass.png

Celaena Sardothien from The Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas series. But since it’s not over yet, I have the right to dream fruitlessly.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ENDED DIFFERENTLY

maze-runner-books.jpg

The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. What the heck was that ending? Ugh. Everything about this series was a disappointment but that was just the last drop.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE HAD A MOVIE FRANCHISE

The Left Hand of God trilogy by Paul Hoffman. It just sounds like it would be visually outstanding.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE HAD ONLY ONE POINT OF VIEW

the-fearless-travelers-guide-to-wicked-places

The Fearless Travelers’ Guide to Wicked Places by Peter Begler. I’ve mentioned this in my review.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE HAD A COVER CHANGE

the-winners-trilogy-book-cover-batte.png

The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski. I just don’t like any of the covers, old or new. They give me a totally different vibe of what the books are really about.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE KEPT THE ORIGINAL COVERS

The Penryn & The End of Days series by Susan Ee. There’s not a huge difference between them but the font change in the second one just irks me so much. It looks awful and unprofessional… The first one is the self-published kindle edition and the second one the paperback. A third edition came to light a year later and looked a lot better but still not on par with the original one.

TOTALLY SHOULD’VE STOPPED AT BOOK ONE

Hunger_games_Books_t600

The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The second book just felt too much like the first and the third one was just completely unnecessary. Should have made it into a bigger book and left it at that.

I TAG:

As always, no pressure to do this tag and so sorry if you’ve already been tagged!

Thank you so much for reading and until next time!

  1. Thank you for tagging me! I was wanting to be tagged for something again, so I really appreciate it! I liked all your answers! I haven’t read Angelfall yet, but I do like the original covers. Great answers!

    1. You’re welcome! ^^ I’m glad it came at the right time hahaha
Sometimes tags just get overwhelming and I’m never sure who enjoys doing them and who doesn’t 😛
I do recommend you read Angelfall. It’s really such an amazing series!
And thank you so much ❤

      1. It was great timing, don’t worry. 😄 It might be a bit late though, but I’ll have it up sometime. Also I’ve been looking into reading Angelfall, thanks for suggesting it!

  2. I haven’t heard about The left hand of God before, love the covers so I have to check it out! I also agree about the “Should’ve ended up with somebody else”, but as you said, the series still isn’t finished. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

    1. I don’t think the series is for everyone… Honestly, even I felt it had its moments while reading it hahaha Particularly the writing is very hard to get into at first and it can get confusing at places.
But I think it would be quite interesting as a movie franchise. I could definitely imagine some of the stuff happening but others were hard to do so, thus I’d probably enjoy watching it in movie/series form.
Aaahh, I’m glad you agree!! Most people are all for the current couple and I’m just sitting at a corner, feeling sullen and wanting to cry my eyes out because it’s such a waste… Ugh. Let’s do that! ^^

  3. Omg, Sophie, that Angelfall book is messing with me. Literally, why change the font if you weren’t going to be it better and the places and omg, I don’t understand. And I agree about the Winner’s books. Even the second set doesn’t seem to flow together. I was looking at buying them today and I totally thought there was three sets because there was no way the second book matched the rest of the second set books. It’s just a mess. XD Wonderful tag!! Can’t wait to do this one – thanks for the tag! 😀

    1. I know, right?? It drives me mad! Because we all know how a cover can make or break a book (at least when it comes to people wanting to buy it) and it’s a shame because this series is amazing and I would easily get thrown off by a cover like that.
Hahaha exactly! I thought I was about to read something close to The Selection and was absolutely mortified but still decided to give it a shot based on the synopsis… Thankfully XD
No problem, Mandy, I hope you enjoy it! ❤ I had quite a lot of fun with it ^^

  4. Thanks for tagging me for this! This seems like such a fun tag. And as much as I think Catching Fire was a decent read, both CF and Mockingjay seemed unnecessary in the long run. The first book was amazing, but then the other two just fell a little short…it’s sad. And I’ll look out for The Left Hand of God!

Yeah I read the first one in one sitting and was amazed, but then quickly lost interest in the series. Such a waste… I found the movies were much better, to be honest.
The Left Hand of God might not appeal to everyone hahaha I know people who despise it and people who love it. I’m personally interested in seeing how it would do in movie form more than anything else, because there’s a lot of interesting descriptions and a lot of historical elements I would love to see depicted in the big screen.
But do give it a try if you want. The writing is quite difficult to get into, though, so watch out for that.

      1. I didn’t like the first Hunger Games movie, but I definitely liked Catching Fire’s movie.
Ah, that makes sense. I’d have to look into it first to see if it’s my cup of tea. But I see what you mean about wanting it to have a movie franchise!

I guess nowadays it's practically mandatory to cough up a trilogy (or more) and authors are kind of told they need to stretch a story out as much as possible in order to fit these publishing demands. Which makes sense profit wise but just doesn't seem to be working all that well. Hopefully things will change!

    1. WE SHALL HOPE TOGETHER! </3
The trilogy is pretty intriguing and can be an enjoyable read but I just really want to see how it would turn out in movie form. I don't think it's famous enough for that but one can hope! Do give it a try but I think the first book is actually the best one. Afterwards it just gets a little too confusing and many of the things that happen were so frustrating hahaha
      No problem, hon!

  5. I tried the Left hand of God series and while I got through the first 2 books, I couldn’t read the 3rd…which is sad because I really liked the writing. Lol I am happy who Celaena is with, but I know there are a lot who still hope for someone else 🙂 Awesome post!!

    1. Oh that’s a shame… Yeah, it’s a peculiar series with a peculiar writing style and I think a lot of people disliked it for that. Honestly, it threw me off a bit at first but once you get into it, it’s fine. However, the series kind of gets confusing afterwards and just starts to beat around the bush too much. It took me a while to finish it and when I did, it wasn’t the most satisfying feeling in the world.
I think it would be quite a great movie franchise just because it’s so different from most books I’ve read. Visually speaking, I’d love to see all the places mentioned in it and all the characters come to life.
Hahaha that’s okay, I understand most people are okay with whom Celaena is now but I’ll never get over it XD I’m still hoping against hope for things to turn around 😛
      Thank you! ❤

      1. Yeah I feel like maybe it could have been 2 books instead of 3. I would definitely like to see it on screen because of the locations and because the MC isn’t meant to be very likeable…which is quite different to other stories. At the end of the day, I just want Celaena, Chaol etc. to be happy…it kills me having to wait til next year to find out whats going to happen to them all😢😢

    1. The series is possibly one of the weirdest one I’ve ever read hahaha But not at all terrible in my opinion. Just very… Peculiar 😛 It took me a long time to get into the first book, especially because of that writing style, which I didn’t completely dislike but took a while to warm up to.
Then it got extremely confusing from the second book onward but I still managed to enjoy it. Everything about this series was so unlike most books I’d read at that point that I tried my best to just keep going and see where it would lead.
I really enjoyed Cale’s character, for instance. He was so despicable but still relatable and completely human at times. All the other characters were also quite interesting and I kept imagining this world Hoffman described so vaguely. It felt historical but I couldn’t really place it? We’re never given a specific era or continent, so everything’s pretty much left to the imagination. Some people like that, others don’t.
After finishing the series I decided to go investigate further and came across some interesting materials/articles on the author’s website. It definitely helped clear up some confusion about what had happened and where his ideas came from. The trilogy was still weird but at least I could understand the reasons behind it.
So that’s why I would love to have it turned into a movie franchise. It would definitely be interesting to see this story play out before my eyes and see the director’s/actors’ take on it, because it really does sound like such an intriguing story! Too bad I felt so lost while reading it XD

      1. Ha, yeah, Cale was awesome, he gives off major Jorg Ancrath vibes in his evil psychoness!😂

It was definitely an imaginative world too, rather bleak if I remember correctly. It would also be interesting to see a movie or series on it and yeah, his writing style was weird, he kept using English slang words mixed with fantasy ones and it was rather strange.😂

    1. Yes, another Marauders fan! 😀 ❤ I just feel they're so underrated… It's always Snape this and Snape that. The only way I can satisfy my fangirliness is to read fanfiction XD Hopefully, J.K. will hear our prayers.
Thank you so much, darling! I'm glad we could agree ^^ And no problem, enjoy the tag!

    1. Unfortunately, book deals seem to only include trilogies nowadays… So I’m giving Collins a break as I know it was probably not her decision. But still, it was such a shame :/
Thank you for reading and commenting! 🙂

      1. It’s frustrating that they happens. I feel it screws up the author’s writing and plans. If they have an idea that they think would be better as a duology but they are forced into making it a trilogy, the books won’t be as good, in my opinion. But they were still pretty decent books. Overhyped for me personally.

Hahahaha and no, we're all still here! Just a bit too mournful to speak up… But I'm keeping my hope until the very end and reading fanfiction in the meantime XD
It hurts, though. Especially in the way that Maas wrote it and how it was so completely unnecessary and nonsensical. Sigh.
Crossing my fingers she doesn't mess up that novella!

        1. I actually haven’t read EoS yet hahaha I know, I know. But I was just so disappointed in the series and when I started reading it, I just didn’t feel it you know? So I kind of lost interest.
I too am rather anxious about it. We’ll see what comes out of there!

  8. Lovely post, Sophie! I’ve already done this tag but it’s such a fun one, I’d love to do it again! 😀 And I’ve seen Weregirl somewhere else but haven’t looked into it. I think I should give it a go. I totally agree with you about the Maze Runner ending. Talk about underwhelming. I feel like NONE of our questions were really answered. The first book was good but it kind of went down hill after that for me. And I’m not entirely sure what the Winner’s Curse series is about but the covers are probably giving me a completely different idea from what I should actually be thinking they’re about LOL. Great picks! 😀 And thanks again for the tag! ❤

    1. Right?? The whole series had such amazing potential and then… Nothing. What a waste!
The Winner’s Curse is basically a star-crossed lovers kind of tale featuring a general’s daughter and a slave. But there’s tons of politics and other stuff involved (and an actual amazing plot). The covers just make it look like a Selection knock-off…
I’ve posted a Weregirl review on the blog, if you want to check it out. It’s spoiler-free too 🙂 I highly, highly recommend it!
Thank you so much, Azia ❤ And no problem, I hope you enjoy it ^^

      1. A real waste. Now I’m kind of stalling on reading Fever Code b/c I’m still rebelling against that ending lol
Huh! That DOES sound interesting. But I agree. I was definitely getting Selection vibes from those covers, which isn’t good LOL. I didn’t really like that series…
Yay! I’ll definitely check it out 😀
Of course and thank you! 💖

  9. Thanks for tagging me Sophie!! Loved your answers! What the hell is up with the covers for The Winner’s Curse though? I have only seen the ones with the girls in dresses, never seen the warrior ones – they give off a totally different vibe and make me want to read the books now!!

    1. No problem, Laura! ^^ And thank you so much ❤
Hahaha I don't like either cover all that much but I definitely prefer the latter style. I recommend you do, the story's so awesome! The covers are absolutely misleading and that's why I despise them so much XD
I hope you like them if you decide to read them 🙂

  10. A Marauder spin-off serious would be freaking fantastic!! I would love to read about their adventures. 😀
I really don’t like the covers for The Winner’s Trilogy either. I just dislike when there are people on the cover. Though I haven’t read the books, sooo I don’t know how well/bad it corresponds to the actual story.
I actually loved Catching Fire, it was my favourite book of the trilogy. I don’t know, I just liked many of the characters that were introduced and some of the things that happened. But I strongly disliked Mockingjay, I really could have gone without many of the things that happened in that book.
Thank you for tagging me! ❤ I have already done this tag though, you can check it out here:

    1. Yeah, fanfiction is my only consolation at the moment hahaha
It’s not just because there are people on the covers (it can work sometimes, just not in this case) but how it misrepresents the heroine and the story itself. Also, it looks incredibly cheesy and I have no idea why they made the girl look so stupid :/
Yeah I agree with Mockingjay but at the end of the day I just couldn’t enjoy either book. Too much stuff happened that made me loose interest in the story… And it just dragged on for too long!
Oh thanks for letting me know! It’s usually impossible for me to check everyone’s tags so I try my best but still fail XD Sorry about that.

      1. It’s really the worst when books, and especially series, drag on for you. I can understand you loosing interest in it.
Oh, it’s no problem! I don’t mind at all, I know how long it would take to check if everyone you wanted to tag has done it. 😀 (It’s sometimes the reason I don’t want to tag anyone at all.)

The Hunger Games movies were pretty good. In a way, I prefer them to the books. But they’re still not my favorite trilogy ever. The Maze Runner, on the other hand… *sadly shakes head*

  13. I like the Winner’s trilogy original cover because they’re pretty but I do agree t h at they don’t really match the story. I hate the new ones definitely! They’re just so unoriginal. At least with the original covers they stood out from other books. Anyway, thanks for tagging me! 🙂

About the covers, I admit the clothes are pretty and the models are pretty and I really like the font (it’s the only thing I really love about them!)… But I don’t know, as a whole it just doesn’t do anything for me. I never pictured Kestrel as those girls or imagined she would act in the way that they are presenting themselves. So while the covers are not ugly, they’re ill-suited for the story.
Of course, to each his own and I’m glad they haven’t turned people away from a great trilogy 🙂
