Pokémon Go Book Tag

This book tag was created by Aentee @ Read at Midnight. I wasn’t originally tagged for this but I just found it so fun I had to do it! I first read about it at Jenna @ Reading with Jenna, so go check her blog out! All the graphics used here were made by Aentee as well.

On to the tag:

Well, I can’t really be sure about the first book that got me started (I was too young) but I remember one that definitely shaped my love for reading. I think it was called 365 Bedtime Stories, or something similar. I remember staring mesmerized at the pictures and letters as I was read to, because I wasn’t able to read yet at the time. I just loved every single story! I tried to find this book online but there are just too many editions.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë will always be my favorite book. I have never been more enamoured of a book, and I don’t think I ever will. The haunting atmosphere, the incredible grasp of the human psyche, everything about the story and Emily herself has fascinated me for years and will probably fascinate me until the end of my days. Every time I read it, I find another detail, another reason to fall in love all over again. It’s a true tragedy that the world will never get to see another work by Emily – in my opinion, the best of the Brontë sisters.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Besides being about a subject I’m not particularly fond of, this book was so over-hyped a few years ago that everywhere I turned, there it was staring at me in mockery. Read me, it asked. But I simply learned to tune it out from my life. I’ve come to realize I don’t care much for anything by John Green.

Another good example is Red Queen and The Mortal Instrument series. Those are just so over-hyped I don’t know if I’ll ever bother.

There are too many books like this, but one series that immediately comes to mind is Falling Kingdoms. It’s not particularly original and it does include a lot of the mandatory elements that seem to be part of the YA fantasy genre nowadays, but the truth is I don’t really care. I love those books to death! To me, it doesn’t matter if an idea is overdone, as long as it’s done well. And that, Morgan Rhodes has accomplished beautifully.

The Kingkiller Chronicle series by Patrick Rothfuss is easily seven hundred plus pages long, and that is just the first book. I have it sitting on my shelf, looking pretty, but every time I look at it or think about reading it, I simply get too intimidated to try. I’ve heard wonderful things about it and feel awful about not giving in to its epicness, but it’s just enormous. I really need to find the courage to open it.

One book I remember reading well after my bedtime is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I remember I got it on a weekday and couldn’t wait for the weekend. I started it right after school and got so involved, I was still reading it when the sun came up and it was time to go back. I was so annoyed because I had about two chapters left! So when I came back from school I finished it and became the happiest, most tired person on Earth.

This one is so hard… I have so many OTPs I can barely keep count! Please note that this post contains spoilers for many series, including Throne of Glass, The Winner’s Curse, The Lunar Chronicles, Penryn & The End of Days, The 100, Falling Kingdoms, Sevenwaters and Graceling Realm. You’ve been warned.

I love Chaol/Aelin, Arin/Kestrel, Wolf/Scarlet, Raffe/Penryn, Bellamy/Clarke, Magnus/Cleo, Darragh/Fainne, Katsa/Po, Lily/James (Harry Potter)… I hope I’m not forgetting anyone.

And don’t even get me started on manga!

A Darker Shade of Magic is just insane. If there is a single moment of tranquillity in that book, it’s because **** is about to hit the fan. And I just loved it! Definitely a book incapable of getting you bored, and one that is wonderfully written at that.

Any series that I love needs more books. That is a fact. But one I think is more than structured for that is The Lunar Chronicles. I’m on the third book of the series and I swear, it’s only getting better and better. You can truly see the author’s progress with this wonderful series. It became extremely badass, while retaining its sweet essence. You know, like Eevee! Meyer just makes it work, with her marvellous world building skills and her awesome characters. Plus, it doesn’t seem forced, like many other series that get exploited to exhaustion. It actually demands continuation.

So this one will be released in November and I simply cannot wait to have it. The Girl from Everywhere is about a girl named Nyx who travels with her father in a ship through space and time. It’s the coolest premiss ever and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve heard it’s similar to Passenger, which everyone seemed to rave about when it first came out, so I hope I won’t be disappointed.

J.K. Rowling and Juliet Marillier used to be my auto-buy authors. And when I was a teenager, everything from Meg Cabot ended up on my shelf. But right now I have others: Sarah J. Maas, Marie Rutkoski, Morgan Rhodes and of course, Marissa Meyer. I’m probably missing someone and for that, I’m really sorry!

There are too many of these! Red Rising, The Raven Cycle, Six of Crows, The Grisha, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Daughter of Smoke and Bone… And tons more if I truly dig into my TBR list.

Empire of Storms and Crystal Storm. It’s not like it’s been forever (just a few months) but it sure does feel like it! I can’t wait to continue two of my favorite series.

For this I nominate Sh*t My Dad Says. I was expecting it to be a funny read but not to make me laugh out loud and think about deep subjects such as family dynamics, relationships and adulthood in its whole. Hilarious, and a very nice surprise!

Also, The Winner’s Curse because I had a completely different perception about what the story was going to be about and because everything about it made me fall in love at first sight (except for that cover).

I’m not into buying books for their pretty bindings, but I can’t deny there are some gorgeous collections out there that just make me swoon. One of the first that come to mind is the Discworld’s collector’s library. I haven’t even read any of the books yet but I already want to own them (blame Good Omens)!
